Colour My World Youth Theatre are offering a unique workshop experience for enthusiastic and energetic budding dramatists, aged between 8 and 16. We need you to join us in February and March for 7 weeks of action-packed and skills-centred workshops culminating with a public performance for charity at a professional venue during the last week of March 2006.

This year the inspiration behind Colour My World Youth Theatre’s production will be the Grimm’s tale of ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’. We aim to create a dark and contemporary interpretation of this tale, framed by our 21st century reality, which will touch our modern sensibilities. Involvement in the project, and our related charity, will develop social consciousness and a sense of responsibility in the participants who will be alerted to present day accounts of ‘lost children’. Profits from the performance will go to Asia ACTs (Asia Against Child Trafficking), an organization who campaign against child trafficking in South East Asia. For more information, please visit http://www.stopchildtrafficking.info.

Audition Notes

Everyone is welcome to apply for a place in our Youth Theatre Workshop and you need not have ANY previous acting or performance experience. The auditions follow a workshop format so you do not need to prepare anything for the day, just turn up and join in!

At the audition we will be thinking about the following things, so read through them carefully and think about how you can show us that you can contribute the skills we need.

  • We need young people who are imaginative, hard-working and able to commit to a project.
  • We need people that are able to work with others because we think this is just as important as an ability to perform.
  • We need creative people with plenty of imagination, as each company member will be encouraged to contribute to the creative process.

We are offering a series of 7-week term Theatre Workshops for successful artists from “ The Piper “ auditions. The workshops will be run by UK graduates with specialist drama training and up-to-date teaching qualifications. Between them they draw on 13 years of teaching and production experience and have produced outstanding youth theatre for professional venues in Bristol and London.

Workshops and rehearsals will take place at Colour My World, Rm 108 Aberdeen Marina Tower, 8 Shum Wan Road. We are easily accessible by public transport. Please click here for location map.

The course will involve a twice weekly commitment from participants over a period of 8 weeks. During this time we will work as a company to create a devised performance for showing at the end of the course.

Here are some explanatory notes for some of the terms we have used in our advertisement:

'Devised' means that we will not be working from a fixed script, instead we will be working from a storyline and the majority of that text and physical imagery will be created by the company.

'Physical theatre' means that we will be using the body/bodies as well as the spoken word as a means of communication with the audience. Some of the workshops will focus on developing use of body shape, movement and gesture.

'Mozart and Acapella singing' means that we will be working with recorded music (from Mozarts opera 'The Magic Flute) and live music (found or devised) using the unaccompanied voice.

Theatre Workshop Fees : $2,400 all inclusive for the full term.

Performance date currently set for Tue, 28 Mar 2006.
